Implant

Implant

A dental implant is a surgical component used to replace missing teeth by anchoring a replacement tooth (crown) into the jawbone. It is made of biocompatible materials, typically titanium, and functions as an artificial tooth root. Here’s a breakdown of the process:

Parts of a Dental Implant:

  • Implant (Post): The titanium screw surgically placed into the jawbone to act as a root for the new tooth.
  • Abutment: A connector that attaches the implant to the crown (artificial tooth).
  • Crown: The visible part of the tooth, custom-made to match the surrounding teeth in shape and color.

Dental Implant Procedure

  • Consultation and Planning: A dental professional evaluates the patient’s oral health, bone structure (through X-rays or CT scans), and overall suitability for the procedure.
  • Surgical Placement: The implant post is surgically inserted into the jawbone. The bone then gradually fuses with the implant in a process called osseointegration, which typically takes a few months.
  • Healing Period: During osseointegration, the patient may have a temporary crown or a healing cap over the implant.
  • Placement of Abutment: Once healing is complete, the abutment is attached to the implant.
  • Crown Placement: The final crown is secured to the abutment, completing the restoration.

Our hygienists perform routine scale and polishing of teeth as well as periodontal root debridement procedures under local anaesthesia. In addition, they place pit and fissure sealants and perform teeth bleaching (whitening) for the clinic. They work closely with your dentist to ensure that the dental treatment you receive has a solid foundation of periodontal health to stand on.
